Water Reserves Report
Mornos Reservoir

The construction of Mornos Dam (126 meters high) began in 1972. The repletion of the reservoir began in 1978 and all works were completed by 1980. The dam is located on the Mornos River and is one of the largest earthen dams in Europe. It forms a man-made reservoir with surface area of 18,5 square kilometers and watershed area of 560 square kilometers. Its maximum capacity is 780 million m3 of water, while its operational volume is 670 million m3. With the installation of pumping units an additional 70 million m3 of water can be abstracted.
