Water Reserves Report
Aspropyrgos WTP

The fully automated and modern facilities have been in operation since 1997. The Aspropyrgos WTP occupies an area of 8,35 hectares.

The Aspropyrgos WTP is located directly below the Mornos aqueduct, thus the raw water is supplied via gravity flow. It is comprised of four identical lines with a total nominal daily water treatment capacity of 200.000 m3. Each line can operate independently. This is a useful and flexible feature, because it facilitates the pilot operation of new water treatment technologies before applying them on a large scale in EYDAP.

Additionally, at the Aspropyrgos WTP, raw water can be initially pre-treated and then supplied to the Aharnon and Galatsi WTPs for further treatment. This happens exceptionally, when the quality of the raw water is poor (e.g. unpleasant odour and taste, excessive algae, prevention of THM’s, pH correction).

The Aspropyrgos WTP primarily supplies the portion of the distribution network that services the area of the Thriasio Pedio and Salamina, however it can also supply the eastern suburbs of Athens.
